Constitutional democracy is a complex political system, based on the limitations and legal constraints imposed on all the powers, public and private, in defense of peace and fundamental rights of all. The formal theory of law developed in this first volume redefines the normative paradigm, examines the growing gap between its principles and its practices, illustrates the techniques and guarantee institutions able to overcome or at least reduce the problems of illegitimacy.
