Scienza e rivoluzione

The reception of empiriocriticism in Russian culture (1877-1910)
The spread of the thought of Avenarius and Mach in Russia represented an exceptional phenomenon in the European landscape: the works of two philosophers were translated with timeliness and completeness, and were read and discussed in magazines, in living rooms, even in prisons, involving academic, scientific, literary, and political circles. Early in the '900 then empiriocriticsm became essential in conflict within the Social Democratic Party and its Bolshevik fraction. The book identifies the main channels through which the new European epistemology made his entry into the Russian culture and reconstructs the terms of the debate that followed, through the analysis of texts in print and archival sources.
